Users of Google Messages might be able to carry out WhatsApp video calls in the future due to cross-platform integration, reported Android Authority.
The outlet reported the finding based on an APK teardown, where the integration was visible in Google Messages v20250131 and they were then able to activate the feature.
Google and WhatsApp have not yet confirmed the integration, which may not necessarily even be released.
Cross-platform interoperability is a feature many smart device users have requested, to save them the trouble of switching between apps to contact the same person. Instead, the potential integration here would allow Google Messages users to immediately jump into a WhatsApp video call with their contact, instead of installing Google’s own video communication app separately.
