Zomato has received approval from its shareholders to rename itself to Eternal, an exchange filing showed. The change has been made to the corporate entity which will now include food delivery platform Zomato, quick commerce business Blinkit, a new app called District to book experiences and its B2B platform for kitchen supplies, Hyperpure.
A few weeks ago, CEO Deepinder Goyal announced a new AI-powered customer support platform called Nugget.
The shareholder approval was detailed in a report published on March 9 after a postal ballot, the company said.
The company’s board of directors approved the name change on February 6 pending regulatory approvals signalling it was preparing to diversify beyond quick delivery.
In a letter posted to shareholders online, Goyal explained the decision, “When we acquired Blinkit, we started using “Eternal” (instead of Zomato) internally to distinguish between the company and the brand/app. We also thought that we would publicly rename the company to Eternal, the day something beyond Zomato became a significant driver of our future. Today, with Blinkit, I feel we are there. We would like to rename Zomato Ltd., the company (not the brand/app), to Eternal Ltd.”
