Uber partners with WeRide to launch robotaxis in Abu Dhabi

Uber has announced that they will be partnering with China’s WeRide to offer autonomous vehicle rides in Abu Dhabi, UAE. For now, the robotaxis will have a human driver “to ensure a secure and reliable experience for riders and pedestrians,” the company said in a statement.

However, the goal is to offer a commercial service that’s fully driverless by late 2025.

Users will be able to hail the vehicles between Saadiyat Island and Yas Island and from Zayed International Airport.

Uber already has existing autonomous vehicle car services in multiple cities in the U.S. including Phoenix and Austin.

The company has been pushing the autonomous vehicle strategy and striking partnerships with more than a dozen different companies like Waymo and Cruise.

WeRide is a Chinese AV manufacturer that operates across China, Singapore, Dubai, UAE and the U.S.
