Telegram rolls out new reactions, filters for message search and NFT features

Telegram has rolled out a fresh batch of updates for the new year including new reactions, filters for message search and third-party verification to combat scams. The messaging platform announced the features in a blog post.

Users can gift collectible gifts that are “unique works of art” or even auction them at an NFT marketplace. The gifts can also be upgraded to receive a random appearance with custom variations made by Telegram artists as well as secondary traits including icon, number and background colour.

There are more than 20 pre-existing gifts which can be upgraded to collectible item status including the Homemade Cake, Jelly Bunny, Spiced Wine and Santa Hat. Users can choose from more than 1,400 unique appearances with even more coming in the future.

Secondly, users can also react to somebody when they join a group, start a video chat or send them a gift, with just two taps. Thirdly, users can find specific messages quickly by applying extra filters in the search bar of their chat.

The app is also tackling scams with a new feature so public figures and organisations have verified accounts as well as official third-party services will be able to assign verification icons to users and chats. So, instead of the blue checkmark, verified accounts will have a unique icon next to their name.

Lastly, there’s also a QR code scanner in the in-app camera which allows users to open links in their preferred browser without switching between apps.

A week ago, it was reported that Telegram turned its first ever profit while generating $1 billion in revenue.
