YouTube CEO Neal Mohan used for AI video scam

YouTube users were warned of a phishing scam featuring an AI-generated video of YouTube CEO Neal Mohan, announcing changes to the platform’s payout policy.

“We’re aware that phishers have been sharing private videos to send false videos, including an AI generated video of YouTube’s CEO Neal Mohan announcing changes in monetization,” said a YouTube staff member in a forum.

The staff member warned users to not fall for phishing scams and to avoid clicking on links sent through untrusted files. Potential consequences of doing so include the loss of credentials, or malware being installed on your device.

“YouTube and its employees will never attempt to contact you or share information through a private video,” said the staff member’s post.

Meanwhile, on X (formerly Twitter), users complained of clickbait scams featuring the popular film singer Shreya Ghoshal. Morphed news article pictures made it appear as though Ghoshal was in an accident or a career-ending controversy, so as to get the reader to click on the content.

Users are advised to report such content to the platform and avoid sharing it with others for security reasons.
